Today, February 7th, 2014, the women’s lacrosse season kicks off for the Duke Blue Devils. They scrimmaged against James Madison and Delaware last Sunday but their first game of the regular season will be against the Elon Phoenix. The opening draw will take place around 3:00 pm at Koskinen Stadium on the campus of Duke University. I am very excited to say that I will be attending this game.
Something that I will keep my eye on is the Duke offense. I think most lacrosse fans know the defense is going to be outstanding with two preseason All Americans in goalie Kelsey Duryea and defender Taylor Virden. I fully expect them to shut Elon down quite easily. My question is the Duke offense. At times in 2013 Duke struggled to put goals on the board. Against this Elon team Duke should easily get to double digits. If they do not they may have a very tough game against Louisville on Sunday.
My prediction: Duke 15, Elon 3
Duke will dominate. The Elon goals will come last in the second half when Duke is rotating some underclassmen in the game. It will be a fun one to watch and I should have some links to photos.
Final Score: Duke 25, Elon 4
Duke was just better at every position. Elon is young, small and unorganized. They have a long way to go but the future is bright.
