I am excited to get this website up and running as it has been a long time in the making. There are some great women’s lacrosse stories to be told and I am going to do it with a news swing. The college season is over with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels taking the national championship. For those who watched on ESPNU you know it was an amazing game. There were several UNC freshman that played a major role in the game. A freshman made the final save on a wide open shot from Maryland and a freshman scored the final goal less than a minute later.
The women’s college lacrosse season in 2013 should be very interesting because of the fact that UNC has so many returning players. In fact, some have said that the 2013 team could be better than the 2012 team. It will be interesting to see how they replace Kara Cannizzaro as she was one of the best players in the country. She lead the Tar Heels in goals, ground balls and total points. That will be a lot to replace in 2013 but there are some lead candidates for that role. Two juniors that may step up in their senior roles include Abbey Friend and Britney Coppa. Even though Friend did not have an amazing championship game she did have a fantastic ACC and NCAA tournament. Britney Coppa ended up with a hat trick in the championship game and she could take on a new role in 2013.
Over the course of time I hope to build this site with as much news as possible about women’s lacrosse. Remember that the 2013 World Cup is coming up so I will offer as much coverage on that as possible. It will be interesting to see who challenges a USA team that is absolutely loaded. I would imagine that the team could go undefeated in pool play and walk to a World Cup title but time will tell. I am biased towards the USA team but I will do my best to offer unbiased journalism as I love the sport of women’s lacrosse.
